Climate Calculator 2003 (EXPECTEMPT):
... By clicking on the four letter abbreviation of your UK town / city, the daily average maximum and minimum temperatures are reported on screen.
Calculations are based upon a function linked to the users internal computer-clock. The icon to the bottom right provides a temperature graph for the entire yearly period. Please Note: (1)-Variations in the weather conditions on both short term and longer term time scales, cause a large fluctuation from the 'mean values' represented by this model. The climatology refers to a 30 year average of minimum and maximum temperatures from 1961 - 1990, smoothing out any temperaure anomalies or trends which may occur over a year or several years using monthly averages. (2)- Error in the reported temperatures are in the order of +/- 0.5C (0.9F), since the temperatures are represented by only one fundamental equation based on a first order approximation of a Fourier series. The model tends to perform less well during the Autumn and Spring temperatures, when the rate of annual cooling/heating respectively are greatest. The equation for the annual temperature is based on a climatology using data from Nottingham, a representative central england region. Please note that these averages do not change with the years, they are fixed at the modelled value. The data for the model was obtained from the 1961-1990 temperature averages reported by the Hadley Centre of the UK Met Office (crown copyright).
